What is the secret to joy? Well, it’s not really a secret. Dedication to God’s purposes brings true joy. But it is a joy which looks beyond the present moment to the promises of what awaits a Christian in the future.
Life, if there is no dedication to Christ will keep our eyes remaining only on today. And today is always mounting with problems. The present for those not dedicated to Christ will prove unsettling, for there is no sense of joy amid their problems, nor is there a future joy, the true joy to keep anticipating and looking forward to. And when one only sees a future where death rather than Christ reins, then the present, today is all there is; and as challenges and troubles come, they bring along with them, bitterness, anger, and cynicism. But for the Christian, though the scriptures indeed tell us, we will have troubles in this life, God’s word also reminds the believer that ‘the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.’ And in this sermon, Pastor Tim Bresnahan shows us through God’s word how our dedication to Christ in the present brings joy within all situations as our focus while remaining on Christ as we face troubles continues to also look towards the receiving of true joy in the future.
